Hello everyone, it's Awesomek here! Today, we’re diving into one of the most popular destinations for foreigners visiting Korea—Jeju Island. Beyond Korea’s bustling cities like Seoul and Busan, Jeju Island offers a warm climate, fresh sea breezes, and stunning natural landscapes that are perfect for a relaxing getaway in the southern part of the country. If it’s your first time on Jeju Island, you’ll want to know the best spots to visit, must-try local foods, and essential travel tips. To help you plan, I've got everything you need covered, so you won’t forget any essentials.
When you think of Jeju Island, what comes to mind first? Is it the breathtaking natural scenery, with blue seas and skies stretching as far as the eye can see? One place I highly recommend is Yeomiji Botanical Garden. Known as the "largest indoor garden in Asia," I had high expectations before visiting, and it did not disappoint. Walking into its grand space filled with lush plants is truly awe-inspiring. Each greenhouse is themed, so you’ll feel like you’re exploring various global gardens all in one place. Other must-see natural spots include Seongsan Ilchulbong and Seopjikoji. Watching the sun rise over the vast horizon at these spots is an unforgettable experience. If you’re looking for a quieter vibe, I suggest visiting Udo Island—rent a bike and take a leisurely ride around the island. Jeju beautifully blends Korean nature and culture, making it a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a unique experience in Korea.
No trip to Jeju is complete without indulging in its delicious local foods, which add a whole new layer of fun to your journey. The first dish I’d recommend is black pork. I visited a well-known place called "Heukdon-ga", where the rich, smoky flavor of black pork grilled over charcoal was simply unforgettable. Paired with "meljeot" sauce, the savory, umami taste kept me reaching for more. While you might find Heukdon-ga’s black pork in Seoul, enjoying it right here in Jeju makes it extra special. Black pork belly (170g) costs around $16, and marinated pork (300g) is also $16. Another must-try delicacy in Jeju is abalone. At Jongdal Haenyeo House, they serve a comforting abalone porridge, prepared with fresh local abalone and a rich, flavorful broth. This soft and tender dish is perfect for family travelers, as it’s a great option for kids. Located at 2276 Haemajihaean-ro, Gujwa-eup, Jeju, this restaurant is open daily from 8 AM to 9 PM, and you can call 064-783-1752 for reservations.
Before you set off to Jeju, don’t forget the essentials! A passport or ID is a must, of course, and it’s wise to double-check your flight details. Jeju’s weather can be unpredictable, so make sure to pack an umbrella and bring clothes suited for various weather conditions. A windbreaker or light jacket is highly recommended. If you’re planning on outdoor activities, don’t forget hiking shoes, emergency snacks, and plenty of water. And one more thing—sunscreen and sunglasses are essential since Jeju’s sun can be intense. Thorough preparation can make your trip much smoother and more enjoyable, allowing you to freely explore Jeju’s alluring sites. Just remember that these small travel items can make a big difference in your comfort, helping you make the most of every adventure on this beautiful island.
