Do you love tteokbokki? If you’re into Korean cuisine and have ever tried this spicy-sweet delight, it’s probably left a lasting impression on you. In Korea, tteokbokki is a beloved street food and a popular delivery item. It’s no wonder people are always on the lookout for the best places to enjoy it. In the popular variety show I Live Alone, Super Junior’s Kyuhyun and actress Han Ji-min showcased their love for tteokbokki. Here are three top tteokbokki spots in Seoul that you must check out!
The first spot on our list is Sinto Buri Tteokbokki, located just 100 meters from Exit 1 of Achasan Station. It’s a favorite of Han Ji-min and well-known among tteokbokki enthusiasts. The address is 15, Achasan-ro 26-gil, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. You can enjoy a generous portion for two at an affordable price of $8. A single set includes rice cakes, a dumpling, a fish cake, an egg, and a hotdog for just $7. When I visited, I was especially impressed by the combination of hotdogs and tteokbokki. The soft, chewy rice cakes paired with the sweet sausage brought joy with every bite. Han Ji-min herself was seen enjoying it with a friend on the show, so if you’re curious, be sure to drop by!
Next up is Soongeum-i Tteokbokki, made famous by Kyuhyun's recommendation. It’s just a short walk from Sinto Buri, about 60 meters from Exit 1 of Achasan Station. The address is 19, Achasan-ro 32-gil, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. The star here is the perilla leaf tteokbokki, known for its unique fragrance. Priced at just $4, it’s become a hot spot thanks to Kyuhyun’s endorsement. When I tried it, the fresh perilla leaves mixed with the lightly coated sauce were truly aromatic. You can even take home 1.5 servings of their non-cooked tteokbokki for later. Pair it with a side of assorted fried goodies or blood sausage to complete the experience.
The last spot is Myeondong Tteokbokki in Myeonmok-dong, Jungnang-gu. Located near Sagajeong Station, the address is 552-4, Myeonmok-dong, Jungnang-gu, Seoul. Established in 1993, it’s been a beloved local gem for years. You can enjoy their tteokbokki, spicy rice cakes, or ramyun-tteokbokki for just $3.50. Kyuhyun couldn’t stop raving about their jjajang (black bean sauce) tteokbokki, and I was equally impressed by its rich, savory flavor. Adding fried dumplings and a boiled egg elevates the dish’s flavor profile, making it even more satisfying. With its location near a school, it’s often bustling with kids, but they also offer takeout, so you can enjoy it from the comfort of your home.
If you’re in Seoul and craving tteokbokki, make sure to visit these three spots. And if you have any tteokbokki experiences of your own, we’d love to hear about them!
