Best 3 Sunrise Spots to Visit for Welcoming 2025

As the year 2025 approaches, have you thought about where to greet the New Year? There's no better way to kick off the year than by witnessing a breathtaking sunrise. To help you start the year with great energy, here are the top three spots in Korea for watching the first sunrise of 2025. Let’s start!

Dumulmeori, Yangpyeong

Best 3 Sunrise Spots to Visit for Welcoming 2025

Dumulmeori, located in Yangpyeong, is a well-known sunrise spot close to Seoul. The name "Dumulmeori" refers to the meeting point of the Bukhan River and Namhan River, resulting in stunning scenery. Visiting in winter reveals a breathtaking sight as the sun rises over the snow-covered landscape. It’s frequently featured in dramas and films, so it might seem familiar, but the real experience is far more moving than any photo or video. Personally, watching the sunrise from beneath the zelkova tree here remains one of my unforgettable memories. After catching the sunrise, make sure to explore nearby attractions like the Namhan River Bike Trail, Muljeongwon Garden, and the Dasan Jeong Yak-yong Historic Site. Located about 30 minutes by car from Dumulmeori, this area preserves the birthplace and relics of Jeong Yak-yong, a leading scholar of Korea’s Joseon Dynasty.

Seonyudo Park

Best 3 Sunrise Spots to Visit for Welcoming 2025

Seonyudo Park, situated in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, is another fantastic sunrise spot. Crossing Seonyugyo Bridge while watching the sun rise over the Han River is a magnificent sight as it bathes the city in a warm, red glow. Although it’s within the city, the park’s spacious layout offers a relaxed setting to enjoy the sunrise. This park, repurposed from an old water treatment plant, beautifully combines natural and man-made structures. It’s also ideal for wrapping up your day with views of the Han River’s nightscape. Expect larger crowds for the New Year sunrise, so it’s a good idea to check the visitor traffic beforehand. If you’re using the subway, get off at Line 9 Seonyudo Station, take Exit 2, and walk about 10–15 minutes to reach the park entrance.

Jeongdongjin, Gangneung

Best 3 Sunrise Spots to Visit for Welcoming 2025

Jeongdongjin in Gangneung is famous as the closest train station to the sea in Korea. The anticipation builds as you ride the train, arriving right by the ocean! Watching the sun rise over the early morning sea is an indescribable experience, almost as if you’re receiving a blessing for a fresh start. Near the station, Jeongdongjin Beach and the Hourglass Theme Park provide a relaxing stroll. For accommodation, the Sun Cruise Resort, shaped like a ship, is highly recommended. Its infinity pool offers a stunning view where sea and sky seem to become one. Watching both sunrise and sunset here will leave you with lasting memories.

Why not plan a special sunrise trip to welcome the New Year? Wishing everyone a joyful and meaningful 2025, filled with wonderful travel moments!
