Hello, everyone. Today, I bring you devastating news. Jeju Air flight 7C2216 experienced a catastrophic accident at Muan International Airport, resulting in the tragic loss of 179 lives out of 181 passengers on board. This accident now stands as one of the deadliest aviation disasters in South Korea's history. As the identities of the victims are gradually confirmed, the sorrow only deepens. The two miraculous survivors, believed to be crew members seated in the rear of the aircraft, offer a faint glimmer of hope amid this overwhelming tragedy. Yet, the sheer number of families left to grieve their loved ones is a profound shock to us all.
What’s even more alarming is that, just a day after this horrific incident, another Boeing 737-800 operated by Jeju Air encountered technical issues. The landing gear malfunction forced the aircraft to return to its departure point, causing significant distress among passengers. While Jeju Air has stated that the return was a precautionary measure for passenger safety, the recurrence of similar technical issues raises serious concerns about maintenance and oversight. It’s imperative that Jeju Air takes this as a wake-up call to implement rigorous safety checks and preventative measures to avoid further incidents.
It has been revealed that the aircraft involved in this disaster had a prior safety issue. In 2021, the same plane reportedly collided with a runway during landing, causing damage to its tail skid device. This incident resulted in a financial penalty and highlighted concerns about operational safety. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport had previously issued warnings to Jeju Air, urging them to improve safety protocols. Moving forward, pilot training and stringent maintenance inspections must become top priorities to prevent such tragedies from repeating.
It’s truly heartbreaking to share such heavy news. I hope this serves as a turning point for stronger aviation safety standards. Please stay safe, and I’ll return with better news next time.
